We are looking for a unique, enthusiastic, and motivated individual who would like to join our focused and safety-driven Pool team. You will be passionate about water safety, great customer service and enjoy an active role where you will play an important part in ensuring an enjoyable and safe environment for our Aquatic Centre customers.

To be a lifeguard in our team you need to:

  • Be confident in the water
  • Be able to swim 200m in 6 minutes or less
  • Have the ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time
  • Be a committed, proactive team player
  • Have the ability to think clearly and remain calm during an emergency
  • Be passionate about swimming and what the pools have to offer

The main responsibilities for this role include working with our team of lifeguards, ensuring water quality standards are met, and providing quality supervision to all pool users at the Waitaki Aquatic Centre. Additionally, you will assist in ensuring the building is maintained to the highest standard and making sure our customers are having a great time.

We are looking for an individual who has a mature attitude, strong communication skills, and a friendly and outgoing personality with a high level of presentation and cleanliness. Relevant lifeguard experience and qualifications are desirable however for the right candidate we can provide training. As part of your Lifeguard award you will be required to demonstrate a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability. The position is permanent part-time and we are open 7 days a week. The swim school and aquatics programs operate both weekdays and weekends, and some rostered weekend work will be part of the role.

This position is situated in a district full of artisans, renowned for its amazing limestone architecture with great cafes, some of New Zealand's best restaurants. Not to mention the fantastic outdoors opportunities, including Aotearoa's longest national heartland cycleway (The Alps 2 Ocean) and the fabulous Waitaki Whitestone Geopark.
